The Guides ...The Outfit: High Country Vacations Bazil Leonard has been guiding and outfitting in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta since 1959. Baz is the authentic mountain cowboy, with an international reputation as an outfitter. A local legend, his guests often take pleasure in his quiet and reassuring manner. He enjoys showing smaller groups the mountain trails he knows so well. He has taken many people from around the world on a horseback riding adventure, which included a camping and fishing holiday. Bazil is a long-standing member of the Alberta Outfitters Association and served on the Executive for many years. High Country Vacations is a family business. Bazil and his family feel privileged to have "been at the right place at the right time." They have benefited greatly from their challenging experience to reclaim the old packtrails of the park. The staff of the outfit often boast that one will rarely, if ever, see people when they enter the deep country. High Country sees their biggest challenge, as being conscious that, "If you build it - they will come"! They hope to find a balance in keeping the Willmore Wilderness Park a pristine, pure and a true wilderness frontier. High Country Vacations has bridged the gap between the past and future, as prospective visitors can pass across the same trails that Rocky Mountain Cree, old outfitters and trappers used in yesteryear. This is a legacy that the owners of High Country Vacations, Bazil Leonard and Susan Feddema, will leave to their children, grandchildren and the kindred souls who have an equal passion for the mountain spirit.
