The Expeditions

In 1993, the staff and friends of High Country Vacations began the daunting task of restoring the packtrails in northern Willmore Wilderness Park, which is located directly north of Jasper National Park. They rediscovered and reclaimed the trails using the old stories that were shared with them by local native elders, retired outfitters and trappers. With chain saws, axes and a passionate desire to "help the trails live again", they began the slow process of clearing and repairing trails to their original condition.

As they began to recreate the trail systems of the Rocky Mountains, more and more people became interested the progress. The first daring souls to join the High Country Vacations expeditions, were individuals who were attracted to a more rugged and adventurous style of holiday. They were motivated people who were willing to stretch the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual limits of self. Their excitement has infected others. As a result two types of expeditions are offered:

Traditional Exploratory Expeditions: New Frontiers
This 10-day trail rides takes you on an adventure expedition that rediscover long forgotten valleys and high rocky mountain passes. Travelers experience incredible wildlife and wildflowers. We ride in and ride out of the rugged beautiful Rockies on a ten-day excursion. This trip is a total immersion into the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. During your trip we will find, blaze and reopen old packtrails to "let them live again."

Heli-Horseback Expedition:
Short of time, but dream of adventure in the Rockies? Well this is a trip for you. Try our six-day Heli-Horseback trip. You will ride in.... but fly out! Come and help revive the trails of long ago. Experience a flight from the world famous Continental Divide, back to Grande Cache, once your trail ride is finished. You will see mountain lakes and scenery that few will ever view.
